Swing On In’s Second Annual A Very Swellagant Affair was not an inch short of magical.  At last, the much anticipated event was upon us and in true Ray and Chrissy style, went off without a hitch.

For swing dancers and appreciators alike, A Very Swellagant Affair is an absolute highlight for the year.  A place to get all jazzed up and truly embrace the old worldly charm of vintage times.  Guests held high expectations since last year’s event and from arrival and beyond quickly nodded that the bar had been raised yet again.

A twinkling of light-filled lanterns welcomed guests, leading to glamourous photoshoots on entry and framed by cascading red velvet.  Meandering past elaborate displays of fuchsia lilies and towards bubbly on entry, the spectacular transformation of the space was absolutely awe inspiring.  Generous round tables filled the room, decorated with tall, dazzling vases of palms atop softly draped burgundy and crisp white settings.  It wasn’t long before the musings of The Residuals Big Band filled the air with their catchy tunes and crooning frontman Rhydian Lewis – beginning the evening’s entertainment with crowd favourites – the perfect reason to hit the dance floor immediately!

Filled to the brim, this year’s dance floor saw guests twirling, swiveling and texas tommying well into the night between trips to the supper table.  Delicious, gourmet pastries, salmon h’orderves, baked treats and more.  This year’s spread was put on my Ray’s mum and Sister Leanne from Cakey Creations.  It’s safe to say that guests very much appreciated the delicious array of choices to stock up on between long dances, not to mention the family affair behind the well stocked bar for much deserved swill trips.

Musical acts set the scene with authentic swing sounds.  Backed by the Swing On In Dance Orchestra, Harry Deluxe took to the stage through the night, serenading guests with her jazzy voice and undeniable sass. The Rat Pack played an assortment of tunes too, so it was impossible to pick a favourite act for the evening as they each brought new flavours to the night’s festivities.

Dance performances were next to entertain the crowds.  Empire Swing took to the stage in their red and black get ups, showcasing the talents of their troupe in a perfectly put together routine.  Finger tip flicking, toe tapping excellence at it’s finest, with lifts galore and smiles all round.  Next, Swing On In’s own The Swinguendos flaunted their Pulp Fiction inspired jazz routine, choreographed by the ever-glamorous Leigh Richards.  This saucy number exchanged a few winks between performers and audience members to the delight of onlookers.  A final jam session saw movers and shakers show their stuff, clapping each other on and reveling in the night’s affair.

And then, just like that, it was all over.  Yet another perfectly pieced together night, fashioned with out of this world finesse.  Now the only question is, can we squeeze in another before the year’s end?  Okay, I think I just heard Ray having a heart attack.
